Keep in mind, this is not the world cup.
Note: All players are expected to sign a form indicating that they have read and understood the following.
The summer league organizer will collect the signatures prior to start of the games.
General guidelines for Summer League games:
- Teams are divided, to the best of ability of the committee, to be as even as possible.
- Only players that are part of the teams can play in the league. All others play pick up.
- Two games everyday; a league game and a pick up game.
- Game time and days are still the same: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30PM till 8:30PM:
- 35 minutes, first half
- 5 to 10 minutes break and switch sides
- 35 minutes, second half
- No games during thunder storm and/or lightning.
- Abandoned game:
- If a match is stopped during the first half, replay the whole match.
- If a match is stopped during the second half, call it a game.
- Fields:
- Field boundaries will be marked with cones.
- All league games are played across the street near LFCU.
- All pick up games are played by the library.
- Number of players on the field:
- All games are limited to a maximum of 6 players on each side.
- Teams will always field their maximum players up to 6.
- All games are limited to a minumum of 4 players on each side.
- A team with less than 4 players will forfeit the match.
- Pick up games:
- On a day that a team that is not scheduled to play a league game, it must guarantee that
the pick up game goes on (minimum of 4x4). In other words, a minimum number of players from that team are expected
to be present for the pick up game to go on. Failure to do so, will result in win-win for the
two scheduled teams and a pick up game will be played instead to accommodate all present players.
- Absentees: In case a team has too many absentees, the match will be forfeited and a pick up game will be played instead. In other words, cannot fill in the shortage by bringing other players into the match.
- Penalty shot:
- A handball within the 1/4 field will result in a penalty shot.
- A direct kick at the empty goal from the 1/4 spot of the field. Whether or not a goal is scored, the defending team starts with a goal kick. In other words, this is a one-touch penalty kick, with no defending or follow up.
- Goal kicks: from the goal line (end line) anywhere on either side of the goal.
- Goals:
- There will be a 5 ft arc (or a 10’X5’ rectangle) zone from the center of the goal. If an attacker touches the ball inside of the zone, the defending team will be awarded a goal kick. If a defender touches the ball inside the zone, the attacking team will receive a penalty shot.
- A player may pass through the goal zone.
- If the ball stops within the zone at anytime, the defending team is awarded a goal kick. There is no ball contact allowed within the goal zone.
- Any part of the ball or player’s body on the line is considered in the goal zone and is an extension of such.
- T-shirts: Dark and white, no grays, no stripes.
- General Rules:
- Self-refereed.
- No goal keeper.
- No slide tackles.
- Home team wears white, away team wears dark.
- Corner kicks.
- No offsides.
- Throw from sides.
- Goal kicks will be taken from the goal line (end line) anywhere on either side of the goal.
- All free kicks will be indirect. Opposing players must retreat 5 yards on all still kicks. (Kick-offs, goal-kicks, free kicks, etc.)
- Sub on the fly at the half way line. Players will exit and enter the field as they cross the touchline.
- Keep scores and Wins/Losses/Ties
- Captains Duties:
- Captains are responsible to settle disputes.
- Captains are responsible to keep track of time.
- Captains are responsible to make sure all players get to play.
- Captains are responsible to make sure all players get sub'ed out.
- The home team is responsible to set the goals and cones marking the field.
- The away team is responsible to clean up and put the goals and cones away.
- Prize:
- Having a good time, playing a good game, sweating a lot,
- and getting your names and your team's picture in the NASA Researcher,
- and a big bash party at TBD.
Q & A:
Q. What is meant by "self-refereed" game?
A. By self-refereed we mean honor system. You are the player and the referee. For instance, if the ball goes out and you are there, then you call it out. If you handled the ball, then you call for a handball regardless of who else might have seen it.
Q. What about INTENTIONAL foul?
Any INTENTIONAL foul (as in red card) or handball near the goal, or slide tackle against opponent anywhere and anytime, will be penalized by playing one player down for 5 minutes (the one who committed the foul goes out for 5 minutes) or until the other team scores one goal, whichever comes first.
